Switch on tap to click

Rather than needing a hefty clunk to click with the trackpad, switch on tap to click instead and then a light tap is all that is needed. System Settings... Trackpad and check Tap to click.

Install Adobe Reader

Whilst Preview is great for viewing documents such as PDFs, it doesn’t support all PDF features (e.g. form filling). http://get.adobe.com/reader

Check encryption is ON

Brand new Macs should have encryption switched on out of the box but if you have been given a Mac or re-installed your OS it is worth just checking. Oh and don’t forget to backup your recovery key. http://support.apple.com/HT204837

Set up Time Machine

Your new Mac is a wonderful thing but if things go wrong it is Time Machine that will get you up and running again quickly. Grab yourself a 1TB external USB and go to: http://support.apple.com/HT201250

Hook up to iCloud Drive

Time Machine is great for getting your Mac back to where it was but with iCloud drive you have another backup of your documents that can be shared across your devices. http://support.apple.com/HT204025

Set a smart password

Even if your Mac is encrypted, the security is only as good as your Mac password. DinoPass is a great place to get password suggestions no matter how big :) or small you are. http://dinopass.com

Try Speech Recognition

Your Mac can type your spoken words into pretty much any application so it is great for quickly getting your blog up to date. http://support.apple.com/HT202584

Install another Browser

Having a second browser is useful just in case Safari has a problem and you need to do some research on it! google.com/chrome or mozilla.org/firefox

Find your Mac Serial No.

Got a problem with your Mac and need to speak to a Guru? Mac stolen and need to help the police identify it. Take a note of your Mac Serial Number now by choosing About This Mac from the Apple menu.

Go exploring

Your Mac is really jam-packed full of whizzy features and useful things just waiting to be discovered so don’t be afraid to go exploring and try new things and then share what you find with others!
