If you experience difficulty receiving new Email on your Samsung Galaxy device it may have its Master Sync switched off.  In this article we show you how to check whether or not Master Sync is switched off and how to switch it back on again.

Master Sync

You may have several Email accounts on your device and there can be occasions when you need to stop those accounts from syncing (e.g. you are abroad and want to ensure data charges are managed).  The Samsung Galaxy device has a "master sync" feature which can be used to switch syncing on or off for all your accounts in one go.

When Master Sync is switched off your Email accounts will stop automatically being checked for new Email) however you can still initiate a manual check as and when needed).

There are a few ways you can tell if Master Sync has been disabled:

  1. When looking at your Email, the "Last updated" time (at the top of your list of messages) is quite a while ago but you know you have good Internet access.
  2. If you look at your Email accounts (Apps... Settings... General Tab... Accounts... choose an Account type), the status says "Sync disabled".
  3. With your Inbox showing, tap the three dots (top right), tap Settings and then tap Sync settings and the Sync Email says "Master sync has been disabled" underneath.

Switching Master Sync On or Off

Switching your Master Sync on or off is very straightforwards.

The first thing we need to do is open the Notification Panel:

  1. Press the Home button
  2. Place your finger on the Samsung text  above the top of the screen and draw your finger down the screen and as you reach half way you can lift your finger off
  3. The Notification Panel is now showing however not all the buttons available will be visible
  4. Tap the All buttons icon to display all the Notification buttons available
